As a nurse, I am well aware of what a healthy lifestyle looks like due to the education that comes with this degree. After having my little man and breastfeeding/pumping for a year I thought I was finally at my “post-birth” weight and it was actually a few pounds under what I was BEFORE I had my baby. Well, it turns out I wasn’t. After I stopped breastfeeding I gained 10 pounds back!
I am only 5’0″ tall (or short lol). I am a very petite individual so having 10 extra pounds on my frame is not an ideal situation for my health. I was having a hard time figuring out what part of my diet was making me gain so much and not let it go. So I decided to try the Arbonne 30 days to healthy living to try and jumpstart more control over my lifestyle. I’ll do a full review once I finish this cleanse which I will talk about what this cleanse is, how I did it, my results, as well as if I am able to sustain certain parts of this cleanse after I finish the program.
Week 1
Oh man, I am hungry, tired, and have some serious cravings. I’m not sure why I didn’t think the first week would be hard but it totally is. It’s all a part of the process, right?
There are a couple different ways you can do this program, but I am following the two shakes a day and one full meal routine. This week I did a smoothie/shake for breakfast and lunch and then followed it up with a meal for dinner. I have come to really look forward to that meal!!
I am a creature of habit and enjoy spending that last part of my day eating with my family. That is what I did growing up. Both my husband and I feel that it is an important part of our day. So, I knew I wanted to keep that going. I imagine in the coming weeks I may switch it up and maybe do a smoothie for dinner but still sit at the table with my guys.
By day 3 I was feeling really off. My shoulders were tense and I was starting to get a head ache. I went to sleep thinking I would be better in the morning.
When 6am rolled around on day 4 and I heard my little guy starting to wake up I realized my head was POUNDING! I felt like I was coming down with some sort of sickness. I even checked my temperature to see if something was wrong. I felt a little anxious as well, which was throwing me for a loop. I came to the realization that I was having withdraws! My sweet Arbonne coach helped me through that one! My body was starting to withdraw from coffee and the excessive sugar that I was eating prior to this cleanse. It’s safe to say, the fourth day was a horrible day.
Any who, my day looks something like this for this past week:
- Shot of gut health with 1 oz of water
- Smoothies (protein powder, frozen fruit, handful of greens, avocado oil, and my super greens
- warm detox tea with raw honey and lemon
- a small Arbonne approved snack
- a shake ( protein power and 8oz almond milk/oatmilk)
- an Arbonne approved snack
- FINALLY DINNER!!! (Arbonne approved, of course)
- If I have a sweet tooth that night then I’ll eat a Arbonne dessert.
The only way I actually got through this first week was by snacks. I am not an individual that enjoys drinking my calories so I had to add in some sort of snacks throughout my day. I would have totally failed if I had not done that.
Day 6… I finally did not wake up with a headache AND I woke up on my own before my whole family. I feel like this is the day it started to turn around for me. While it turned around for me in terms of my energy, tenseness, and headache, I did realize this was probably the worst day for my mood. I was so angry and I wanted to give up. I started wondering “why am I even doing this?” which is a big no no! I persevered and kept going. I did however splurge and get some gluten free Oreos! I do not regret eating those one bit.
All in all, it was a good first week and I lost two pounds. I wish I had taken my measurements but I forgot. As for the actual meal replacements, I’m really not looking forward to all the shakes I am drinking. The shakes taste fine for what they are. I am just a foodie at heart so knowing I have to drink a shake or smoothie instead is a mind game for me. I am even ok with feeling sick for those couple of days because I know it is better for my body to be off coffee and that extra sugar.
